The basic course is suitable for beginners as well as meditators who wish to gain a clearer understanding of how meditation works.
During the course you learn various meditation techniques which can be used during the day to keep you in balance. You'll also learn meditations which encourage you to relax deeply.
You work with the meditations that appeal to you and they can all be easily tailored to meet your own needs. Feel free to peruse a synopsis of the course aims.

What is meditation?
Meditation is a word used to describe an extraordinary variety of techniques and can be practised for an equally wide variety of purposes. Most commonly though, it is a quiet, introspective practice in which you allow the body to relax and the mind to become calm.
Benefits
People meditate for many reasons. Some of the most common include, to:
- relax, de-stress and fall asleep
- improve or maintain good health
- remain calm and balanced throughout the day
- develop greater awareness
- stimulate creative thinking
- cope better with pain and sadness
- find happiness, beauty and meaning
What can be treated through meditation?
Studies over the last few decades confirm that meditation is a particularly useful treatment for:
- insomnia
- anxiety and depression
- reducing blood pressure
- stress and stress related illnesses
- cardiovascular disease
- digestive problems
- improving and maintaining immune system function
How it works
Meditation works by triggering the bodies relaxation response and its natural tendencies for rest, repair and rejuvenation. By learning how and where to direct attention, the meditator can effectively regulate key systems (respiratory, cardiovascular, digestive, immune etc.) to ensure that both body and mind can quickly return to states of homeostasis, or balance. These are simple skills that everyone can learn, but that few people have consciously developed.
What to expect in a session
On our meditation courses you will learn about what meditation is and how it works, and will also be introduced to a wide variety of meditation techniques. On each session there will be a combination of theory, practice and discussion / question time.
You will learn how to integrate meditation into your day by using ‘spot’ meditations — which can be done in as little as 20 seconds and allow you to destress in any situation, including while at work. You’ll also develop the capacity to use longer sitting practices in order to relax deeply.
You work with the meditations that appeal to you and they can all be easily tailored to meet your particular needs.
Session length
Sessions are of 90 minutes duration and run over 6 consecutive weeks.

I came along to your first (or one of your first?) meditation classes in Elwood, about 3 or 4 years ago. I feel drawn to write to you after recieving the latest newsletter which, like all previous versions, I welcome into my inbox. I'm living in the UK now, but continue to feel the benefit of that initial course, it has really given me a great tool for slowing myself down and, importantly, recognising when I need to do so. General Information
All our classes are conducted sitting on chairs in comfortable surroundings. There's no need to wear special clothing — many people come straight to class from work — but you might like to bring a bottle of water and pen and paper (if you're the note taking type). There's no religious element to our courses and people of all ages and backgrounds attend. It's our aim to make meditation as natural and comfortable as breathing. As such, we present meditation as a simple, practical skill.
