Bodywork
Deep body listening. Instinctive body healing.
Bodywork is deep conscious communication between bodies. It’s purpose is to connect a body to it’s instinct to heal.
People bring to me their pain, their tension, their numbness, fear, confusion, holdings and dysfunctional behaviors. They want to know how to translate this unavailable stored material in their bodies into available wisdom. That is what I teach: practical meditation.
We know that the body is holding stuff that it hasn’t been able to metabolise yet because:
- we feel physical tension, pain, tightness, dis-ease etc
- we have emotional over reaction or become caught in an emotional loop of anger, shutdow, anxiety, trying to please, unhappiness etc
- we notice certain repetitive sorts of thought patterns, e.g. negative thoughts about ourselves, habitual self criticism, cynicism etc
- it seems that the outside world keeps throwing similar experiences at us,
- like we never fit in, people are hostile towards us, we keep losing jobs, we crash cars, we are always behind with money etc
- relationships don’t work harmoniously etc etc etc etc
So, we have experiences stored in our bodies that are our wisdom but we can’t access this wisdom because it is not conscious.
Every time we store material, an aspect of the function of where we store it e.g. the liver, pancreas, knee, brain….is influenced. Every organ and every hormone centre is a portal for certain abilities. When the portals are used to store the past, their full potential function in the present is compromised. When tension becomes conscious experience, the body doesn’t have to hold it any more. It becomes available conscious knowing and the proper function of that part of the body is again available. When I’m doing bodywork on someone, my consciousness i.e. my body is talking to their body. I put pressure on a part of their body, open a particular energy channel which is blocked by tension, by a piece of un-metabolized experience, and the two bodies together witness the experience and open to the instinct every body has for healing.
What to Expect in a Bodywork Sessions
"Bodywork sessions are conducted on a low massage table and are 2 hours long. There is time for talking/counselling before and integration after the bodywork. Slow strokes are used to open up the energy channels in the body. These strokes are done at the body's pace, listening for where the body is open, and where the body has some information to explore, release, integrate.
As a bodyworker I am listening through my hands and my body, I am listening with an attitude of no pressure, there is no rush, it goes at the body's own time and pace. It can be very still and slow. I may do one stroke or 20 strokes in a session.
The person receiving the bodywork gets to listen at the same time, it is like meditation. They listen by noticing the sensations they are feeling. I may be working on your neck and you may have sensations in your leg, as the energy channels connect the whole body. We may be silent or we may be talking about the sensations we are both experiencing.
When there is some stored material that is ready to heal, this can occur through sensations, emotions, visions and insights.
Each session is completely unique.
Each session leaves the person feeling deeply connected with yourself, relaxed and with deeper understandings."
